"Universe at Reach" (2022) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3 format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches). This drawing was inspired by the Prague Planetarium and the artist's lifelong passion for astronomy.

The Story Behind the Art

As a child, Marie Brožová wanted to become an astronomer. She reportedly became an artist only because of her lack of talent for mathematics. Inspired by a vivid childhood memory of the Prague Planetarium, this artwork captures the magic of a winter night with the universe at reach. "On a winter evening in Prague's Stromovka Park, away from the streetlights, my grandfather, my mother, and I stand together, trying to find the constellations in the night sky. Orion shines brightly above the Planetarium roof, and I can see all the treasures of the universe around me—planets, galaxies, and even black holes. Infinity feels within arm's reach. It is freezing, frost glistens on the ground, a tram chimes in the distance, and we are already looking forward to warming up a bit before we get back home," the artist recalls, offering a beautiful blend of crisp winter chill and nostalgic emotional warmth in her artwork.

Look closely to find Jupiter with its four Galilean moons, red Mars guarded by a black cat, and the ringed planet, Saturn.
