"The Sun in Taurus" (2015) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the artist's Astrology series.

Meet the king who truly enjoys being a king! He isn't interested in power over others, but rather in the power to manifest his dreams. He is never afraid to roll up his sleeves to make them happen, and he never forgets to enjoy a good meal. With a scarf tied around his head—because there's no time for etiquette now—only his golden crown gives him away. Smiling, he tends to a vast garden full of colors and scents. One flower is simply not enough; he needs armfuls of everything! He is as busy as a bee, and as evening falls, weary from work, he settles into his rocking chair, which serves as his throne. Looking out over his fertile lands, he sees a realm of happy people, where everyone does what they love and helps one another. This is his home, the place where he has put down roots and truly belongs. His kingdom is thriving, and he is proud to have played his part.

Hidden Details to Discover

The Taurus zodiac symbol is hidden within the honeycomb on the oak tree trunk. Both the ring on the oak root and the key symbolize a binding commitment to home and native land. It is no coincidence that the majestic Karlštejn Castle can be seen on the horizon; King Charles IV was also a Taurus. In the drawing, you can discover three cats, a comb in a bird's nest, and countless hidden faces—because for a Taurus, everything in nature is alive, and they seek no other paradise than the earthly one.
