"The Sun in Libra" (2015) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the artist's Astrology series.
The Story Behind the Art
Saint Wenceslaus walks through the Lord's vineyards, his shoulders humbly bowed in a fleeting moment of the world's beauty. In his eyes lies compassion for weakness, for he himself knows what it feels like to be weak. To him, bravery does not mean wielding a sword but overcoming that which he fears. Late summer reigns over the landscape as swallows soar high in the air.
Hidden Details to Discover
You can find the Libra zodiac symbol on the roof of the small wayside shrine, just to the left of the bronze scales held in the king's hand. Marie Brožová drew inspiration for this piece from the vineyards of South Moravia. It won't be easy, but you can also find two cats hidden within this artwork.
