"The Mysterious Knight" (2019) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová. Created in her private atelier, the original artwork is an A3 format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches). Featured in the artist's Astrology series, this artwork represents Mars in Cancer.
The Story Behind the Art
Under the moonlight, a mysterious knight emerges from his castle gate holding a lantern, and gazes out into the night, accompanied by his loyal black steed. The castle gate possesses cat-like eyes, as does the tree whose roots intertwine with the castle staircase, concealing a freshwater spring. In the background, behind a wall of reeds, the dark lake gently ripples.
Hidden Details to Discover
Rather than a warrior, Mars in Cancer is an artist and a minnesinger. Instead of a sword, he has a mandolin hidden right by the door. Look closely and you will also find the sign of Cancer (a crayfish) painted on his shield.
