"The Little Mermaid's Home" (2010) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Before Andersen’s Little Mermaid ventured onto land, she lived in a magnificent underwater kingdom with her family. The colorful world of the coral reef—teeming with fish, sea anemones, seahorses, and treasures from sunken ships—is breathtaking. Yet, the Little Mermaid, resting on a swing hanging from a ship's anchor, dreams of the world above, where birds fly through the sky and sunbeams warm her skin directly, without having to pierce through the deep ocean waves.
Hidden Details to Discover
The Little Mermaid's Home is one of the rare underwater scenes by Marie Brožová. While you won't find a cat in this piece, you can search for the hidden moray eel instead.
