"Spring is Calling" (2016) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
On the path leading into the sun, winding between century-old trees of a linden alley, you squint your eyes, sensing the souls of nature spirits awakening in the roots and among carpets of violets, while the shadows of winter retreat beneath the ground. Spring is rising from the grass; it is time to take a breath and let life return.
Hidden Details to Discover
Inspired by a real place, this piece captures the linden alley at Konopiště Castle close to Prague. It is set within the stunning parklands founded by Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who created this private sanctuary as a haven for his family.
