"Spring Garden of the Mountain Lord" (2004) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3 format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches). 

The Story Behind the Art

Inspired by an old legend, this piece tells the tale of a lost traveler in a snowstorm who, possessing a good heart, is guided by the mountain lord into his secret garden of eternal spring. Here, the traveling redheaded girl may cast off her winter garb, rest by a freshwater stream, listen to birdsong, and feast her senses on the beauty and hope of the season. Once the storm passes, she may safely continue her journey.

Hidden Details to Discover

Along the edges of the painting, you will discover delicate snowflake fairies. Each snowflake is unique, and every fairy adorns herself for that rare moment when a one-of-a-kind flake emerges from the water cycle, just before merging back into the snow cover on the ground.
