"Snake Secret" (2010) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as an illustration in the artist's second book, The Soul of Stones.

The Story Behind the Art

In an autumnal garden, a beautiful gypsy woman in a red dress sits by a campfire, cradling a black snake adorned with green and red gemstones as it coils around her neck. The flames make the surrounding leaves quiver, while the glow of the setting sun shimmers with a message of a happy life in the here and now.

Hidden Details to Discover

In the artist's second book, The Soul of Stones, this piece represents zoisite—a green stone with ruby inclusions. You can see it on the snake's skin.
