"Shrine of the West" (2005) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A2 format piece, measuring 59.4 × 42 cm (23.4 × 16.5 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
During the breathtaking golden hour before sunset, when the rugged cliffs awaken with the fiery colors of autumn leaves, the enigmatic Lord of the West rests within his sacred cave just beneath the hill's summit. From the spout of his teapot, he gently pours the velvet darkness of the coming night out into the world, while directly behind him, a white unicorn stands guard at the entrance to infinity.
Hidden Details to Discover
The very stones of the surrounding cliffs wear ancient, wise faces and are beautifully engraved with classical Chinese poems, mirroring the sacred traditions of ancient China's mountain hermits. Long ago, those sages carved their verses deep into the living rock, ensuring that the fleeting magic of the present moment would be preserved for all eternity.
