"Shepherd of Clouds" (2007) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at Luxor, Prague's largest bookshop on Wenceslas Square, as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
On a celestial meadow high above the earth, where only birds and paper kites can reach, a shepherd tends his flock of lambs, reading a book of wisdom by the light of the setting sun. Even the old sheepdog knows how to read – he has a bag full of books from the Luxor bookstore. While the Luxor logo on the bag wasn't a requirement, Marie Brožová truly cherished the opportunity to create her work in what was then the largest and most beautiful bookstore in the Czech Republic. This piece was created right in the shop window, overlooking busy Wenceslas Square.
