"Red Riding Hood" (2016) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Little Red Riding Hood carries a basket full of treats to visit her grandmother, who lives in a charming valley cottage. The forest breathes with the spirit of spring, as animals and fairies emerge from their winter burrows. While some nature spirits still slumber in the shadows, the stream banks are already ablaze with marsh marigolds and dandelions. Meanwhile, the wolf sits as still as a statue, eyeing the colorful offerings of the spring menu.
Hidden Details to Discover
Take note of the stork in the treetop, spinning a vinyl record on an old-fashioned gramophone.
