"On the Swing" (2002) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3 format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Small children are closer to the ground, capable of discovering an entire continent within a single square meter of forest. In this piece, Marie Brožová reminisces about summer holidays at a woodland cabin, where she and her friends searched for little fairies in every tree stump and were enchanted by the mysterious tales the artist's mother imagined for them.
Hidden Details to Discover
"I wonder where all those childhood toys we once loved so dearly ended up—the clown from the ring-toss game, or the tiny plastic animals we used to build a zoo around the roots of trees," Marie Brožová recalls. Some of these very toys from the artist's childhood can be found hidden within this enchanting artwork.
