"Mrs. Thunderstorm" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as an illustration in the children's book Where the Sun Lies, which is also available in English.
The Story Behind the Art
Mrs. Thunderstorm, a messy-haired witch, sits against a gloomy sky, holding a partly eaten watermelon and a long pearl necklace about to snap and turn into hail. Cloud dragons race around her, playing with a crystal ball, and lightning sparks from the point of her magic hat. Marie Brožová created this piece especially for children, transforming the power of a storm into a playful fairy tale to help them overcome their fear of thunder and lightning.
