"Land of the Sleeping Dragon" (2017) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
The Kounov Stone Rows are a remarkable prehistoric site in Bohemia, where thousands of ancient stones align in a parallel, mysterious formation. Inspired by their dormant power and untapped potential, the artist envisioned a sleeping dragon awaiting its moment of awakening. It remains unclear whether this anticipation should be met with awe or trepidation. For now, you can marvel at the tiny fairies dwelling within the dragon's scales, nestled amidst crystals and offerings left by visitors. As spring arrives, a damp mist clings to the beech leaves, and small elves take refuge under flower umbrellas.

For the keen observer, the drawing reveals only a single cat and a small dragon princess.
