"Lady Witch" (2019) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
The Lady Witch doesn’t travel on a common broomstick; instead, she rides in the complete comfort of her rocking chair, with her magic broom simply tucked into the frame. Dressed to the nines in her favorite hat, an evening gown, and a pearl necklace, she is ready for any grand occasion. As storm clouds with expressive faces threaten rain, she has brought along a parasol just in case.
Hidden Details to Discover
On her journey over mountains and forests, the Lady Witch is accompanied by a scholarly cat in glasses, soaring above the treetops on his very own wings.
