"Kiss of the Rocks" (2010) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Marie Brožová got the idea for this drawing during a trip to the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks (Czech Republic), a place where extraordinary rock formations ignite the imagination. Inside a cave high above the rock city, a young hiker has taken off her boots, set aside her backpack, and opened her sketchbook. Looking around, she chews on her pencil, searching for inspiration. The view is spectacular; above the bizarre sandstone formations, natural rock sculptures of lovers stand, frozen in an eternal kiss. On this sunny autumn day, hikers swarm the trails below, while the air fills with floating bubbles carrying whimsical airships powered by devices and desires.
