"Indian Summer" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3 format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches).

The Story Behind the Art

Summer is in full bloom. High within the canopy of a linden tree, a young girl celebrates her birthday alongside a golden lion wearing a royal crown. Adorned with feathers, a bow, and brand-new moccasins, she embodies the wild spirit of adventure. Between shimmering leaves and butterfly wings, the blue sky drifts by. This piece is a tribute to the inner child—a reminder of the joy we can carry within us throughout our lives.

Hidden Details to Discover

As a child, Marie Brožová had an imaginary friend—a golden lion. Remarkably, she had no knowledge of the legendary Aslan at the time; The Chronicles of Narnia were not available in the Czech Republic until she was an adult. This piece is a vivid memory of her childhood.
