"Grandmother's Garden" (2006) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
In a magical, old-world autumn garden, Grandma steps out of her cozy little house, carrying a freshly baked pie and a pot of tea. Cats tug at her skirts while Grandpa watches fondly from inside, smoking his pipe. On the settee, a teacup awaits. The garden overflows with fruit, late roses, frolicking cats, toys, and hidden gnomes. This isn't just any garden; it's a place where pumpkins and water pumps smile, and magic happens all around to help with the chores. In the clouds above, the spirit of the late summer drifts by.
