"Goddess of Summer" (2022) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Zhiva (Siwa), the Slavic goddess of summer, fertility, and the divine female power to grant life, sits amidst a golden field, her blonde braid woven into the stalks of grain. A radiant halo surrounds her head, illuminating a celestial sky blooming with cornflowers. In her gentle shadow, small hares find refuge, while a curious doe draws near to behold her beauty. With the goddess Zhiva, whose very name embodies life and nourishment, comes a sense of deep gratitude for all the bounties nature bestows upon us.
