"Gingerbread House" (2016) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
In a sun-drenched forest clearing stands a gingerbread house, looking irresistibly tempting at first glance. Yet, a witch's shadow is already looming in the open doorway. Hansel is busy picking sweets from the roof, while Gretel, clutching a basket of mushrooms, cautiously watches from behind an elderberry bush.
Hidden Details to Discover
The vibrant forest is teeming with sprites, even smaller than squirrels, living right within the trunk of a pine tree. Nearby, a cat wonders if even the toadstools are made of marzipan.
