"Generous Fir Fairy" (2007) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at the Prague Municipal Library as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This image is featured as an illustration in the artist's first book, The Soul of Trees.

The Story Behind the Art

Deep within a snow-covered clearing, the generous Fir Fairy arrives to bring magical Christmas gifts to the woodland animals. She has a special, thoughtful treat prepared for each of them – from a gentle rabbit and a nimble squirrel to a majestic snowy owl, a graceful doe, and a curious orange cat. Holding a pristine droplet of pure, crystalline water in her open palms, the fairy radiates warmth, transforming the silent, snowy night into a forest filled with wonder and beautiful surprises.

Hidden Details to Discover

Look closely near the bottom of the drawing to find a tiny, adventurous mouse on skis, playfully tickling the orange cat’s tail. Follow the miniature mouse tracks and tiny wooden ladders weaving through the snow to discover exactly where these little creatures travel, leading you straight to their cozy underground home with a warm, lit window.
