"Flowering Meadow of Stars" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová, created live in public in Kutná Hora (Czech Republic) as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as an illustration in the children's book "Where the Sun Lies," which is also available in English.
The Story Behind the Art
Above the cathedral planet arches a Milky Way made of dandelions, where a stellar family rests alongside a celestial cat, a black swan, and a magic mirror. This green universe is full of joy, alive with butterflies, comets, and winged ideas.
Hidden Details to Discover
Marie Brožová was inspired by a local legend, which tells of a subterranean lake hidden in the rock beneath St. Barbara's Cathedral in Kutná Hora, where a black swan glides upon the water.
