"Fairy Tale Forest" (2005) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork, an A0 format measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches), was donated by the artist to the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Motol University Hospital in Prague.
The Story Behind the Art
In the forest, children love to tuck tiny houses made of bark and moss into the gnarled roots of trees. This artwork reveals what happens when the small people discover these handmade shelters and make them their own.
Hidden Details to Discover
Take a closer look – even the old stump has a face! Can you spot the pocket knife nearby and the tiny boats carved from pine bark? See if you can find all the cats, too. There are four fairy felines in total, each one smaller than a mouse, a squirrel, or a lizard.
