"Bridge of Confidence" (2019) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). 

The Story Behind the Art

With trust in our hearts, we can face the deepest doubts and achieve the seemingly impossible, like the girl in this drawing, gracefully juggling fragile soap bubbles. Her ultimate quest? To soften the petrified heart of the Wild Man, who has built a rigid fortress of solitude on the opposite shore. "To share your art is to accept that it will not resonate with everyone," Marie Brožová recalls. "Criticism is easy, often born from the critic’s personal insecurities rather than the art itself, and such negativity is best left behind. Yet, it can still sting. I was once confronted by an artist I deeply admired, who told me he questioned my sincerity entirely. In moments of harsh judgment like that, we must remind ourselves that we alone know the true heart of our work. Trusting our own vision is what allows us to keep moving forward, completely untouched by the opinions of others."

Look closely at the river’s current. You will see an accumulation of messages in bottles piled up in the water – silent cries for help from other castaways who may have unintentionally isolated themselves from the world.
