"August Night of Shooting Stars" (2004) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. She created this piece at the beginning of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
August nights are dark, and when the weather is clear around August 12, you can witness shooting stars that are said to grant every wish. This artwork captures exactly such a night, reflecting the romantic atmosphere of the South Bohemian countryside.
Hidden Details to Discover
Marie Brožová was inspired by a shared experience of watching the Perseid meteor shower in a friend's garden in South Bohemia. Can you spot the eye peeking through the hole in the fence, secretly watching us?
