"The Unicorns of Silva Gabreta" (2013) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in South Bohemia as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Alluring, long-haired elven maidens riding on the wings of eagles soar toward the glowing Moon. Deep below them ripple the endless ridges of the Bohemian Forest—the Celtic Silva Gabreta, a legendary mountain range of ibexes and perhaps, hidden in the shadows, even unicorns.
Hidden Details to Discover
On the horizon, the familiar silhouette of Mount Ostrý stands out. It is celebrated as the most beautiful peak in the region, aptly nicknamed the "Breasts of the Mother of God." When you take a closer look, you will discover yet another female body sensually nestled among the mystical unicorn ridges.
