"Christmas Unicorn" (2013) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
If the magic of a Christmas unicorn were to protect us from the cold, we could take all the cozy holiday warmth—cookies, fragrant tea, and presents unwrapped beneath the tree—out into a landscape illuminated by a celestial chandelier. A cat brings firewood, a dog clears the falling snow, and a pile of gifts still awaits in a deep snowdrift.
Hidden Details to Discover
Look closely, and you’ll discover that almost every tree hides a watchful face. Explore further, and you'll find faces embedded even within the mountainside. Keep an eye out for a Christmas angel hidden within the chandelier.
