"Christmas River" (2017) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the Souls of Czech Rivers series, inspired by the Jizera River.
The Story Behind the Art
The soul of the Jizera River has settled with her dog into the mist of a mountain valley, its breath mingling with the smoke from the chimneys of snow-covered cottages where families celebrate Christmas Eve. The little mice are having their own Christmas, too—carrying tiny gifts through frozen blades of grass and visiting the Nativity scene.
