The Story Behind the Art

A summer night is full of wonders. A little girl finds herself alone in the woods after dark for the very first time. In every tree, stone, and bush, she sees eyes watching her with curiosity. Bats swoop by on the wings of the evening breeze, a comet rides a bicycle along a silver string between the Moon and the stars, and a stag ventures out to graze in the moonlight. The girl feels that no one is ever truly alone—everyone is woven into the fabric of the universe.

Hidden Details to Discover

In this artwork, Marie Brožová captures her own childhood memory of being in the forest after dark for the first time, realizing that just as she was looking at the forest, the forest was looking back at her. It was a beautiful feeling of protection and safety that has stayed with her for a lifetime. To this day, she often walks through the woods at night without fear, drawing inspiration and filling her heart with wonder under the starry sky.
