"The Little Star Rover" (2019) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
Cats typically sleep for twenty hours a day, perhaps wandering through alternate dimensions. While most keep their dreams to themselves, Little Saffron loves to accompany the painter on her nightly journeys. This piece was inspired by a dream where the artist and her cat left their sleeping bodies behind. Together, their souls went for a walk across the starry sky to the heart of the universe, gazing down at Prague from high above.
Hidden Details to Discover
Notice the threads leading from the sleeping bodies to the balls of yarn, which the star wanderers carry with them so they can return home safely upon waking.
