"Where the Sun Lies" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live for the public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as the cover illustration for the artist's children's book, Where the Sun Lies, which is also available in English.

The Story Behind the Art

There are days when even the Sun gets tired and decides to stay in bed to get some rest. It scatters its tangled rays across the pillow, brews a cup of herbal tea, and turns off the alarm. While gloomy weather rules the earth below, the Sun stays in its cozy celestial cottage, reading its favorite books and listening to the tinkling of wind chimes. Slipping into cloud-soft slippers, it lets its favorite cats into bed and fills the feeder for the birds – the only visitors allowed. Bring this sunny mood into your home, no matter the weather!
