"The Ark Looking for the Dry Land" (2008) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at the Liberec Zoo (Czech Republic) as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). 

The Story Behind the Art

The red elephant represents the legendary Noah's Ark, carrying animals from all continents as it searches for the shores of a better future where they can return to their original homes. Zoos—such as the oldest one in the Czech Republic where this drawing was created—serve as a similar ark, helping species that have lost their natural habitats survive.
