Silver Moon (magnet)

"Silver Moon" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). This image is featured as an illustration in the children's book Where the Sun Lies, which is also available in English.

The Story Behind the Art

The Silver Moon rests in a rocking chair in his heavenly garden, gazing down from high above at the windows of the human world glowing into the night. Having seen almost everything, his face remains filled with kindness and understanding. Accompanied by celestial cats, a pipe, and a teapot, he ponders while observing the sky through a telescope. Dreams, ideas, and visions visit him, and he sends them down to the right people to be brought to life on Earth.

Hidden Details to Discover

The birch and pine bark masks in the upper right corner are inspired by Robert Holdstock’s Lavondyss – a beloved book that the artist often returns to.
