Waiting for the Light (poster)

"Waiting for the Light" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).

The Story Behind the Art

As the Sun gently cradles itself into a crimson sunset, the autumn wind whispers through trees stripped of their leaves. High on the hillside, young shepherds roast a humble supper over a crackling campfire. With the gathering dusk, mystical nature spirits—forever hidden from the harsh light of day—softly emerge from the shadows to warm their hands by the glowing embers alongside the humans. In this magical twilight, people, animals, and enchanted creatures from unseen realms gather close, drawn by the comforting light of the flames as they wait together for the promise of a new dawn.

Hidden Details to Discover

Look closely among the roots: tiny woodland mice are whispering to each other, showing off treasures that humans have lost in the forest. Among their secret findings is a jade ring, once lost by the artist herself.
