The Sun in Pisces (poster)

"The Sun in Pisces" (2015) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the artist's Astrology series.

The Story Behind the Art

The sign of Pisces is as mysterious as the mist before the dawn. The Fisher King sits on his waterside throne like a statue, pondering which fish to release and which to consume. The entire world is still asleep, its solid contours veiled in haze. With calm and compassion, the King observes the futility of every ending and every beginning. He understands and forgives all hasty actions. To those who believe they can change the world through their own actions, he may appear as a harmless, quiet fool. Those who have realized that the pursuit of material wealth brings no true certainty see in him a spiritual master. Beneath the surface lies a bottomless infinity, with fish gliding among the spires of fairytale kingdoms. The Fisher King knows how to dive into the depths of the unconscious and touch eternity. In the present, he seeks a purpose for which he could sacrifice himself to rid the world of suffering.

Hidden Details to Discover

The Pisces zodiac symbol can be found on the stone beneath the candle. The imagination of Pisces knows no bounds; ghostly jellyfish float across the sky like hot-air balloons.
