Everything she has done throughout the year was done with love and her family in mind. Over food, tea, or wine, one should linger with friends and savor the gifts of the present moment. Here, health holds a far different value than in a modern health food store. A little of a good thing—even if rich in fat or cholesterol—cannot harm when eaten in moderation and with pure joy. The housekeeper inherited her recipes from her grandmother and will pass them down to her daughter and granddaughter. She uses her grandmother’s traditional stoneware bowls, and knives, which give her a sense of eternity and constancy.
