"Painter Winterfrost" (2008) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 x 84.1 cm (46.8 x 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as an illustration in the children's book Where the Sun Lies, which is also available in English.
The Story Behind the Art
By night, the painter Winterfrost decorated the windows with beautiful imagery. He touched every twig with silver, brought the bare landscape to life with hoarfrost, and turned every puddle to glass. While the world shivered and even the birds wrapped up in hats and scarves, the stars came down from the sparkling night sky to skate across the frozen pond.
Hidden Details to Discover
Look closely. A white winter dragon scratched the artist's signature, "MAB", into the glass pane.
