"Emerald Chamber" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public in Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured as an illustration in the artist's second book, The Soul of Stones.

The Story Behind the Art

Inside a hidden emerald chamber, lush with vibrant greenery and cascading leaves, a gentle fairy sits at her table. With a peacock quill, she writes heartfelt letters to all those who were left with unspoken words in our world. Beside her, a majestic eagle rests in a golden cage, ready to carry these messages over the highest mountains and deepest valleys—delivering them faithfully even to those who have already passed from this life. Within the chamber, a peaceful, enveloping warmth reigns supreme, completely untouched by the frozen, snowy peaks visible through the open stone window.

Hidden Details to Discover

A cat has made itself cozy on the fairy's green skirt. Peeking through the leaves, you can spot a secret fountain and stone stairs winding their way up to higher, hidden floors.
