"Elder – King of Fairies" (2007) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3-format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches). This image is featured as an illustration in the artist's first book, The Soul of Trees.

The Story Behind the Art

Beneath a blooming elderberry bush on Midsummer Night, the King of Fairies pauses by a magical spring, carrying his pan flute and a three-branch candelabra. He is accompanied by a retinue of nymphs, water sprites, and fireflies. Golden feathers descend from the starry sky, while the King’s cloak shimmers with colorful gemstones.

Hidden Details to Discover

According to legend, the golden fern blooms only on Midsummer Night, revealing the earth's hidden treasures known only to the pixies. You can find one of them – carrying a small shovel and wearing a snail on his ha t– in the bottom left corner.
