Distant Horizon (poster)

"Distant Horizon" (2013) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). 

The Story Behind the Art

If only you could turn back time and relive those endless moments spent waiting with grandma and grandpa before the train arrived. To a child, the train station was a boundless playground where a universe of adventures unfolded. In that magical span of time, a whole world of wonders came to life: chalking out a game of hopscotch, marveling at a novelty pen with a tiny moving steamer inside, whispering secrets to butterfly fairies, and catching a reflection in the drifting clouds. From high above, the blue eye of eternity winked down, offering a fleeting glimpse into a distant future that radiated with rainbow-colored hope. Meanwhile, lost in the quiet peace of the moment, Grandma only managed to turn a single page of her book.

Hidden Details to Discover

This image captures a memory of the original railway station where the artist traveled to her family’s cabin as a child. Her grandparents are gone now, and the station’s little garden has been buried under the cold concrete, but the trains keep running – carrying with them a timeless cargo of memories that no force can ever take away.
