"Beech Grove Shepherd" (2007) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová. Created in her atelier, the original artwork is an A3-format piece, measuring 42 × 29.7 cm (16.5 × 11.7 inches). This image is featured as an illustration in the artist's first book, The Soul of Trees.
The Story Behind the Art
In a spring grove, beneath the canopy of ancient beeches, a shepherd with a wild mane of red hair and regal antlers tends to a herd of green buffaloes – moss-covered boulders feasting on dandelions. This sacred place, blessed by the presence of both beasts and wood nymphs, is adorned with offerings from those who feel its magical essence.

Marie Brožová recalls that it was beeches that first made her realize in childhood that trees are alive. On their silvery bark, you can spot eyes secretly watching you.
