Awake in a Dream (poster)

"Awake in a Dream" (2013) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).

The Story Behind the Art

Sometimes you wake up in the middle of a dream and know it is a dream. Suddenly, you can look around with completely different eyes and marvel at what level of reality or fantasy your soul has wandered into. It is in such a moment of awakening that the Wizard with the white unicorn looks back at us on a journey through the night forest, leaving frosted tracks behind. Witches and wizards live in the mysterious depths of the forest; you find yourself at the very crossroads between worlds.

Hidden Details to Discover

On the right, a woman is gradually turning into an owl. On the left, spiral stairs can take us to another dimension. In the sky shines Saturn, the ruler of the winter sign of Capricorn, along with not one, but two moons.
