Autumn Wind (poster)

"Autumn Wind" (2009) is a colored pencil drawing by Prague artist Marie Brožová, created live in public in Jindřichův Hradec (Czech Republic) as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).This image is featured as an illustration in the children's book, "Where the Sun Lies", which is also available in English.

The Story Behind the Art

Autumn has turned the meadows and orchards to gold, yet the day is so beautiful, as if summer were never meant to end. An old man, high on a ladder, gathers a bountiful harvest, assisted by his feline friend, while the breeze, like a golden kite, plays with the falling leaves. Beside a country path, a golden-haired girl sits with a basket of apples and a bag of nuts. She touches the earth, wishing for time to stand still, if only for a moment. Above, clouds are forming castles in the air.

Hidden Details to Discover

High in the heavens lies a tribute to Jindřichův Hradec, the birthplace of this intricate drawing – the outlines of the Rondel music pavilion gracefully ascend from the clouds.
