"Shepherd of the Unicorns" (2013) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches).
The Story Behind the Art
As spring triumphs over winter, a majestic herd of unicorns glitters like stardust in the golden sunrise, gently grazing across endless emerald fields. Here, the Earth itself takes the form of a green turtle, whose slow, steady footsteps awaken fresh, vibrant blossoms with each passing day. In the dappled shadow of a grand, ancient oak, a mysterious unicorn shepherd rests beneath a blanket of blooming anemones, softly soothing a shy white unicorn that has stepped forward from the mist to meet his tender touch.
