The Sun in Sagittarius (greeting card)

"The Sun in Sagittarius" (2015) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the artist's Astrology series.

The Story Behind the Art

The season of Sagittarius falls at the end of autumn, a time when the first snow usually blankets our lands in the Northern Hemisphere. Although the centaur's body is woven from golden autumn leaves, the first snowflakes already shimmer upon his tail. The entire world belongs to him, boundless and free. With enthusiastic, giant strides, he moves from place to place, drawn to the exotic, feeling at home everywhere just like migratory birds. His openness and spontaneous nature unlock doors that would remain firmly closed to everyone else. He speaks the Esperanto of friendly communication—a gift far more powerful than knowing all the world's languages. The Sagittarius King, an adventurer of the spirit, has just embarked on a journey of discovery across a universe of rainbow-colored possibilities.

Hidden Details to Discover

Naturally, the horse is the primary Sagittarius symbol, but other large, peaceful animals—such as elephants, dolphins, and all migratory birds—are also associated with this sign. In the drawing, Sagittarius aims his arrow at Jupiter, the ruling planet of this zodiac sign.
