Samhain, the first festival of the Celtic year, traditionally celebrated on the eve of November 1st, is revered as the ending from which everything begins anew. It heralds a period of hibernation, rest, and dreaming. While the old withers, the seeds of new life are already nestled deep in the earth. Samhain is a celebration of eternal life and, at the same time, a remembrance of our departed loved ones. At this time, the veil between worlds grows thin, allowing the souls of ancestors to return home for one night. Lights are left in windows to guide them, while Halloween pumpkins with candles are used to ward off unwanted ghosts and spirits. The ancient traditions of Samhain beautifully continue today in the Christian holiday of All Saints' Day.
