The Sun in Aquarius (greeting card)

"The Sun in Aquarius" (2015) is a colored pencil drawing by Marie Brožová, created live in public at her famous Magic Pencil Gallery in the heart of Prague as part of her long-term project The Defense of Colored Pencils. The original artwork is an impressive A0 format, measuring 118.9 × 84.1 cm (46.8 × 33.1 inches). This piece is featured in the artist's Astrology series.

The Story Behind the Art

No one on Earth will ever manage to climb higher than the preceding sign of Capricorn. Yet, the journey continues onward—into the clouds. Aquarius was endowed with a vessel containing all knowledge gathered thus far; his task is to pour this living water over all that lives, unconditionally and indiscriminately stimulating further growth. The King of Castles in the Air dwells upon a throne of clouds, inhaling the scent of violets and lavender. Nothing disturbs him; up here, only birds, balloons that slipped from children's hands, and the soap bubbles of dreams can reach him. It is no wonder that from time to time he might feel like God Almighty. Everything in his heavenly realm is ideal, and when he looks down at the imperfect world toiling for material wealth, he turns away in disgust. He considers himself enlightened, knowing exactly how people ought to live. However, for this to work, he would first have to descend to Earth and come to terms with his own shadow. Only then would he understand that no one can jump out of their own skin.
