The Cat Lover

Cats have accompanied Marie since childhood, and she cannot imagine a happy, fulfilled life without them. To her, a cat is far more than just a favorite pet—this magical creature, which slips effortlessly between worlds and carries endless mysteries, is a true symbol of freedom. Cats never obey blindly because they know best what they need. They never act simply to please others, and that is precisely why we love, honor, and respect them. In ancient times, cats were worshiped as deities, and they have never forgotten it.

Marie’s childhood feline partner-in-crime was a tomcat named Piškot (Cookie), who lived to the remarkable age of twenty. You can read all about his grand adventures in the book The Little Artist, soon to be published in English.

During the couple's hermit years at their cabin in the scenic Posázaví region, the heart of their feline pack consisted of three cats: Maruška, Martin, and Čert (Imp)—the latter of whom firmly believed she was a boy for several years, right up until the day she surprised everyone with a litter of kittens.

Her current feline companion since 2017 is a tabby named Šafránek (Little Saffron). As a tiny kitten, he became the direct inspiration for the artwork The Little Star Rover. He used to sleep right next to Marie's head, whispering magical dreams into her sleep.
