Queen MAB
"Mab was the fairy queen of Celtic mythology, whose purpose was to bring dreams to people, as Shakespeare beautifully described in Mercutio’s monologue in Romeo and Juliet. People always saw a fairy in me, and it also happens to be an acronym of my legal name, MArie Brožová. And since I bring people dreams through colored pencils, I transformed the letter 'A' into a pencil." – Marie Brožová
For a long time, Marie did not sign her artwork; a signature felt like an intrusion, something foreign that didn’t belong in her initial vision. It was only after marrying Martin Brož in 2000 that her artistic signature was born along with her new monogram. Today, many of her admirers find great joy in hunting for this signature hidden within her drawings.
In the world of fine art, Marie Brožová reigned as the queen of colored pencils for twenty years. Yet, following her 20th-anniversary retrospective exhibition at Prague's historic Carolinum in 2024, she laid down her crown. She chose to return home to her own kingdom—a place where she no longer has to be queen, and where she can quietly immerse herself in projects that demand her deepest focus.
