Her First Life as a Translator

After walking away from art school, Marie focused on language studies, passing her state exam in English in 1995. Before embarking on her journey as a professional artist, she worked as a translator for several publishing houses.

She later put this experience to use in her own publishing house, OBHAJOBA PASTELKY (The Defense of the Colored Pencil). There, she translated Tarot in Poems by American poet Willie Watson, who composed verses for all 78 Tarot cards. Marie also created an original deck of cards for the book, which was later featured in the Lexicon of Czech Tarot (2020).

Marie herself is a voracious reader. Whenever possible, she prefers to read books in their original English, Russian, or French, though she always appreciates a beautifully crafted Czech translation of fine literature.
